Program Description

We are a small American English language and culture program located in Lafayette, Louisiana. The goal of the Intensive English Program (IEP) is to improve the English language and cultural skills of non-native English speakers and offer the preparation needed to meet the basic requirements for most universities. We have five 8-week sessions per year.

available housing options:

University housing is available for single students. We encourage students to live on-campus to better integrate into university life and to gain more experience using English skills. Residence halls are either male or female. There are no co-ed dormitories. Most rooms on campus are double rooms. There are few private rooms but students must pay more money to get a private rooms. All students who live on campus must participate in the meal plan. There are several options in selecting meal plans. Housing is available at an extra cost between sessions. However, There may be days when no meals are served in the cafeteria. Students are responsible for finding other accommodations if they wish to live off campus.

The city of Lafayette is the hub of a 50-mile area known as Acadiana. It is the focal point because of its advanced medical facilities, numerous retail shopping centers, the Cajundome and other convention facilities. Lafayette is situated 35 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, 50 miles from Baton Rouge, 129 miles from New Orleans and 229 miles from Houston. The fourth largest city in Louisiana and the largest municipality in Lafayette Parish, and the Lafayette Parish has a total population of 181,363 in 1997. According to the census data, Lafayette was the second fastest growing parish in the state in 1995. Lafayette's climate is very attractive to those who enjoy long, hot summers, and mild, comfortable winters. For a good portion of the year, popular activities such as fishing, water sports, and camping are enjoyed by many. Lafayette's climate attracts many northerners during its pleasant winter months. Average January Temperature is 43°F/5°C (winter), Average July Temperature 95°F/35°C (summer), and Average Annual Rainfall 82.62 inches.

A completed and signed application form (link to on-line form); a non-refundable application fee of $35.00 (payable to IEP-UL Lafayette); a non-refundable tuition deposit of $150.00; a housing deposit of $100.00 if you plan to live on-campus (payable to IEP-UL Lafayette Housing.); an official high school or college diploma or transcript translated into English; A letter of financial support; a bank statement stating that you have the money (US$6,564.00 for 6 months) to support yourself during your studies AND a letter from your sponsor stating that he or she will support you while you are in the U.S. or if you are supported by a government or corporation, please send a letter of financial guarantee from your sponsor stating that they will support you during your studies in the U.S.
