Charlotte, part of a growing metropolitan area of approximately 1.3 million people, lies about midway between Atlanta, Georgia, and Richmond, Virginia, within a day's drive of Washington, D.C. The city offers many cultural activities such as art galleries and a natural science museum, as well as professional sports. It has a mild climate with sunshine an average of 233 days a year and light snow two or three times during the winter.
