Capital University’s ESL program is designed to prepare non-native English speakers with developing their English language skills so they may continue in a degree program at a U.S. university. Some students have also used this program to develop their English skills to use in their professional careers in their home country.Capital’s ESL program has three levels, Basic, Intermediate and Advance. All levels have classes in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students are tested during orientation to place them in the best level for their current skills. Students are in 20 hours of instruction per week with instructors who have advanced degrees in TESOL, or a related field. Capital’s ESL program has been re-designed to help students prepare for the new, Internet-based TOEFL. Students have access to a language lab to supplement classroom instruction.
